We are happy to welcome three new student researchers to the Platial Analysis Lab this fall.
Mitra Kashani and William Arent have joined us as doctoral student researchers, co-supervised by Prof. Grant McKenzie and Prof. Mylène Riva. Both bring a shared interest in energy vulnerability and health.
Mitra’s research examines how social vulnerability and health outcomes tied to disaster-induced power outages are spatially patterned. Before starting her PhD, she worked as an environmental health scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and holds an MSc in microbiology from George Mason University.
William uses spatial analytical methods to study household energy vulnerabilities, including power outages and energy poverty. He holds an MS in Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University and a BSc in Geography from the University of Minnesota.
Alja Luzar Pilipovic is a new Master’s student researcher supervised by Prof. McKenzie. Her research looks at who uses shared micromobility services, such as bikes and e-scooters, through a transportation equity lens. Alja completed her BA in Psychology at McGill, along with a minor in GIS and remote sensing.
Welcome to the lab, Mitra, William, and Alja. We are excited to see where your research takes you!
