Emily Chen is an Honours Urban Systems Geography student under the supervision of Dr. Grant McKenzie in the Platial Analysis Lab. Her honours thesis will assess public response to COVID-19 using spatial analysis of urban mobility data, which encompasses her research interests at the intersection of socially impactful technology, human decision-making, and public health in urban environments. An avid traveler, she has spent her most recent summers studying Mandarin Chinese at Shantou University in China through a generous scholarship from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, exploring the dynamic urban changes taking place in Singapore and Malaysia through a field studies course supported by the McGill Faculty of Science and Department of Geography, and researching offshore wind farm project development as a project analyst at Energie Baden-Württemberg Asia Pacific through the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology Global Talent Internship program.
